Nurses Unite!

We’re not needy.  Most nurses are familiar with being unappreciated. But this most recent faux pas by Joy Behar and the cast of “The View” has nurses all over the globe, up in arms.  Why?  Not only did the cast mock Miss America contestant Kelley Johnson about her “talent” which was a monolog about nursing, but they laughed about her dressing in scrubs and wearing a “doctor’s stethoscope”.  Now nurses nationwide are incensed by these ignorant comments and  calling for a boycott of “The View”.  I was just wondering if there was anyone with an IQ of greater than 100 that actually watched the show?  I saw a snippet of one episode, but it was accidental as I was flipping channels.  Watching a bunch of grown women gossip does absolutely nothing for me.  I mean daytime TV as a rule is just bad anyway, anything produced by ABC lately has to be even worse when you consider they brought us recent thrilling hits like “The Bachelor in Paradise” and “Celebrity Wife Swap”.

Nurses of the world, you are appreciated!  You have one of the hardest, most demanding jobs there is and you do it with genuine love and empathy.  No self centered TV host out there can begin to imagine how hard, or how rewarding our work is to us.  Unfortunately, the hosts of these shows are paid to “entertain” which apparently these days means to sit around and make fun of everyone who is not exactly like you, and it is not necessary to know any facts.  Perhaps someday ABC will grow up a little bit and present some programing that actually makes the world a better place.  You know, present us with cast members that can be role models not only for us, but for our children.

Speaking of role models, you’ll never find better role models than nurses, most of us are not only nurses, but wives and mothers as well.  We give a whole new meaning to juggling roles and do it quite gracefully with very little recognition.  I’m proud to be a nurse and though I make nowhere near the salary that Joy Behar and the rest of the cast make I am so much richer in the long run.  I will go to my grave content in the realization that I gave something back to this world, I made someone’s life a little bit better, I comforted someone today.  What did you do, ladies of “The View”?
