Holiday Blues?

It’s a holiday weekend and lots of people have big plans for their last taste of summer, but what if you can’t get away?  Maybe your local weather sucks, you’re stuck working, your kids are sick, or you just plain old don’t feel like doing anything.  A long weekend is the perfect time to start a whole new adventure…inside your head.

Yes, I’m talking about picking up a brand new, fabulous novel and immersing yourself in it.  I guarantee, it’s like a vacation for your brain.  How else can you travel to a land you’ve never been to, meet new people and experience emotions without doing anything but reading about it?  Compared to a vacation, reading a new book is much cheaper!

Reading is also the best way to exercise your brain, studies show that people who read on a regular basis not are not only smarter, but they preserve their brain function later in life and are less likely to suffer from dementia.  Just like any other part of your body your brain needs exercise and all that surfing the internet has made it very flabby.  Work that brain people!

What do I like to read?  Basically everything, but being an editor and publisher I get the opportunity to see all the best stuff.  What do I recommend for you?  Well depends on your tastes, but I do have a few favorites I love to recommend.

First, let me tell you about Kingsmuir Press’ newest hit One Small Bite, by our newest author R. J. Hanrahan.  If you love vampires, this is the book for you.  Let me warn you, these vampires are naughty, so if you are looking for a tame novel, I suggest you steer clear.  If your tastes run more to the “Fifty Shades” type naughtiness only with vampires, then this is the book for you.  These vampires crave blood, power and sex and they will do just about anything to satisfy their cravings.

Next, if you love murder/mysteries check out Jean Marie Stanberry’s Heartless-A Star is Dead.  The brutal murder of aging movie star Sabine Rousseau has hunky hero Doug Bellamy and his partner Chris Salazar completely consumed.  Obviously a crime of passion, the detectives suspect someone close to the woman has committed this murder, but a lack of evidence and a family that borders on the bizzare, has this team stumped.  When the evidence finally starts to fall into place, they fear the killer has another victim in mind, and it’s possible they stumbled onto this information too late.  You won’t be able to put this one down till the very last page!

Also by Jean Marie Stanberry, check out The Illusion Of Order.  This book literally soared up the charts in Great Britain, actually making it to #2.  Brits love romance, scandal and royals and this book has it all.  When American Jenna Bruce travels to Scotland to recover from a devastating car accident she’s not looking to be in a relationship, but when she attends the prestigious Ascot, she meets three men.  One old acquaintance and two brothers.  If you’ve ever been prodded along by well meaning friends and relatives only to end up in a relationship with the wrong person, you will understand Jenna’s frustration.  When she finally realizes her mistake, scandal erupts, but keep reading, there’s always a happy ending.

Think racial tensions are something new?  Take a trip back to the 70’s in Lyoness Bradley’s Imperfect World.  This book follows the life of Leigh Webster, an idealist who’s parents are small minded and controlling.  In the throes of court ordered desegregation Leigh’s high school is in an uproar.  When Leigh falls in love with and begins a secret romance with a desegregation student she knows her family and her community will never approve of their match.  When they finally go their separate ways, they cross paths occasionally but eventually live separate lives.  When the unthinkable happens they are finally reunited and they realize that perhaps there was actually a reason that they went their separate ways in the first place.  This heartwarming novel spans over two decades and is based on a true story.  I hope you love it as much as I do!

Those are my top picks for the holiday weekend but Kingsmuir Press has so many more novels to offer.  All our works are available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and at select, privately owned bookstores.  Depending on the author’s preferences, most are available globally on e-readers as well.  Don’t forget to like us and your favorite authors on Facebook and visit their websites to check out all their other books.  Please support our wonderful authors and if you like what you read, tell your friends, write a review or send them an e-mail, they would be stoked to see your feedback!

Back to School!

The kids are back to school, so now it’s time for mom to have her very own little escape.  What better and cheaper way to escape than with a fabulous fall read?  Reading can take you far away to another land, to another life, make you laugh, cry or just escape reality for a little while.  Kingsmuir Press is here to help you find your perfect back to school break from reality.

Check out Lyoness Bradley’s Imperfect World.  This story begins in the late 70’s in an upper middle class high school dealing with court ordered school desegregation.  Leigh Webster struggles through her senior year facing the challenges brought by the influx of desegregation students and extremely overbearing parents, not to mention the fact that her father is their high school principal.

With college looming ahead Leigh is pushed towards the “right guy” while secretly loving a guy who her parents would never, ever approve of.  As life plunges ahead Leigh follows the path of least resistance but when tragedy strikes, she finds herself once again, face to face with the man she once loved.  This is one of those stories that will leave you asking, does God have a master plan for us, or was all this really just a coincidence?

Our second author Jean Marie Stanberry has a whole host of books that we love.  Her newest book Heartless-A Star is Dead is an epic murder mystery that will leave you positively breathless.  The brutal murder of an aging Hollywood movie star has detective Doug Bellamy stumped.  Between the troubling lack of evidence and her severely dysfunctional family.  When he finally finds a break in the evidence he must coordinate a desperate nationwide search for the murderer who has a final victim in their sights.  Can they get to the intended victim before the murderer exacts one final act of revenge?

Also check out Jean’s epic coming of age tale, The Illusion of Order. This book has rapidly become one of the most popular books in the UK and for good reason.  Everyone loves a feel good story and this book is no exception.  It will prove to you, that once you’ve hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up!  Brits still adore following the lives of their noble families and when there is a scandal it makes it all that much better.  This book will give you scandal on a silver platter. Sure those noble families look perfect in their family photo shoots, but what’s really going on behind the scenes?  That’s the “Illusion of Order”.

Finally, coming soon for you lovers of naughty vampires we have R. J. Hanrahan’s One Small Bite.  This ancient vampire dynasty has two families struggling for control of the crown and they will do whatever it takes to return it to their own family.  This sweeping drama transports young Pemberthy Parker from her lower middle class life in the late 70’s to a mediaeval castle far away where she learns she is of noble blood and she soon  finds herself embroiled in an elaborate intrigue to return the throne to a family who lost their rights to the crown years ago.

Pem finds herself to be merely a pawn in a society with ancient rules and customs she really doesn’t understand. She must struggle to fit into this new life within a society of vampires who have powers and desires that she can’t even really understand at first.  If you know anything about vampires you know that not only do they crave blood, but they have other “cravings” that must be satisfied and they will do just about anything to satisfy their lust.  It is these “cravings’ that will eventually lead to the downfall of the royal family.

That’s four great reads you must put on your list.  Take a little “me” time, escape the real world for a while with a fabulous book.  Check out these and all our great titles available on Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com and select privately owned bookstores.  These books are also available on all major e-readers and top e-reader lending sites.

Book Excerpt-An Imperfect World by Lyoness Bradley

The year is 1978 and Court Ordered School desegregation doesn’t sound like such a big deal to 17 year old Leigh Webster, but then again maybe she is just too young to realize the social and political firestorm that is just igniting in her community.

Leigh’s relatively sheltered life with extremely overbearing parents is about to take a radical turn. When Leigh meets attractive and smart desegregation student Chris Logan, she is attracted to him right away, but with social tensions running high, can they risk a relationship? A touching story about love, hate and every emotion in between.  Continue reading Book Excerpt-An Imperfect World by Lyoness Bradley

Hot books to read this summer!

Lounging in a hammock, lazing away the day in a sunny lounge chair, these hot summer days are made for enjoying a good novel and we at Kingsmuir Press have a few suggestions.

Our hottest  author Jean Marie Stanberry has been heating up the book charts with her newest release “Blood, Sweat and Fears” a heart pounding drama that will transport you to Paris in the early 1980’s, where one man’s desperate plan to escape the communist Soviet Union goes awry and shakes up the entire cast of the European Theater Company.

Jean Marie Stanberry has three other books to choose from in genres to suit just about any reader. Check out “Laying Low In Hollywood” (Romance), “One World United” (Post Apocalyptic Science Fiction) and “The Illusion of Order”
(Romance).

If you are looking for a coming of age romance that will tug at your heartstrings, I urge you to check out “An Imperfect World” by our newest author Lyoness Bradley. This novel, set in the late 1970’s tackles the issue of court ordered school desegregation and the drama it created at one high school, when the heroine forms and unlikely friendship with a desegregation student that eventually develops into a romance, things get dicey.

Whatever your tastes, we have a great book that is sure to satisfy it. All books are available on Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com and you can get more information about Jean Marie Stanberry, or any of her books at her website, jeanstanberry.com

Meet the Authors

This is our second post about our wonderfully talented authors.  Our newest Author Lyoness Bradley, grew up a mere 5 miles from our first featured author Jean Marie Stanberry, but remarkably, the two didn’t know each other.

Lyoness contacted Jean after reading her Bio on Amazon’s website, after she read Jean’s book “Laying Low In Hollywood”.  “It was weird, says Lyoness, our lives were so similar, we may have even crossed paths in the past, but fate never truly brought us together.”

Lyoness Bradley grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri.  She admits she had a very privileged upbringing, in fact, her father was the principal of at her private high school, which Lyoness says, pretty much ruined her high school years.

Lyoness wanted to write a book to help young girls to spread their wings.  Lyoness said her own parents were very controlling, she didn’t get much of a chance to think with her own mind until she went away to college.

“An Imperfect World” is the story of her journey from a blatantly manipulated teenager, to a woman who finally feels free to follow her heart.  In high school in 1979, Lyoness fell in love with another student, who was black.  Her parents forbid her to see him at all and even threatened his life.  Lyoness, fearing for his life, broke off the relationship and eventually married a family friend.  Though she grew to love her husband, she never forgot about her first love.  “An Imperfect World” is a fictitious account of her love affair.

Today Lyoness is an accomplished lawyer and enjoys writing and traveling.  She penned her most recent novel while on a transatlantic cruise to Portugal.  Lyoness will soon release her newest novel “One Small Bite” it is in the final editing stages and is due for release in late April or May.

Like Vampires?

Coming soon, Lyoness Bradley’s newest book “One Small Bite” will be hitting shelves and e-readers hopefully in early April.  Pemberthy Parker has a legacy to fulfill, a legacy as Queen.  Bitten by her betrothed as a child and marked for greatness, Pem can barely wait for her big day. When she shows up in the castle two years ahead of schedule, not everyone is happy.  Nobody does vampires like Lyoness Bradley, especially when the vampires are lustful, jealous and vengeful.

An Imperfect World

An Imperfect World

Check out this book by our newest author Lyoness Bradley. She’s so new, she doesn’t have her own website yet , but “An Imperfect World” is available on all digital e-readers. It’s the ultimate coming of age story, set in late 1970’s St. Louis, during a period of court ordered school desegregation.

Leigh Webster can’t imagine how bringing 40 intercity students into her slightly upscale school could be a big deal. She learns quickly that the people she knows and loves aren’t really open minded or accepting.
