The leaves are turning, the nights now have a bit of a chill in the air. Everywhere you look you can find goodies made with pumpkin, lattes, scones, pies, ice cream. The list goes on and on. There are a lot of reasons that fall is my favorite season, but fires in the fireplace are my favorite thing of all. I stack floor pillows on the hearth and grab my Kindle and read all evening long.
My favorite read so far, has been The Illusion of Order by Jean Marie Stanberry. I love strong women characters and Jean has a knack for creating a heroine that is truly inspiring. Originally meant to be the second book in the “Heart of A Phoenix” series, this book can easily stand alone as the author provides enough backstory that you can jump right in.
The book follows Jenna Bruce, a professional figure skater who is recovering from a devastating car accident and attempting to start over in life. Worried that she will fall into a irreversible depression her grandmother sends her to Scotland, to stay with family, hoping that a change of scenery will do her good.
The quiet of rural Scotland is comforting at first, but soon her great aunt Maggie seems hell bent on finding her a boyfriend, which after the tragic loss of her fiancee, Jenna is nowhere near being ready to date. When she attends the world famous Ascot in London, she meets three men and unwittingly sets off a chain of events that will change her life forever.
With her friends and family pushing her to date a man who seems perfect, it just seems easiest to honor their wishes. He is good looking, rich and politically important. But what about that little voice in the back of her head? The one telling her that this is all wrong, that maybe things are not as bright as they seem…
The Illusion Of Order is available at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble, many privately owned bookstores and is available on all major e-readers. Don’t forget to check out Jean’s other books Laying Low In Hollywood, One World United, and the prequel to this book, Blood, Sweat and Fears.
