Is “True” Journalism Dead?

I remember 9th grade Journalism class where I learned that true Journalism presents the facts without bias, that if I was a “true Journalist” I would present these “facts” in an interesting way without imposing my views on my audience. A nice thought, but has that way of thinking gone completely by the wayside?

Some people blame it on the internet, but pick up any newspaper, turn on any news channel and watch people shouting about “impeaching the President” and you will see what I mean. Journalism has turned into all out marketing! They are not only pushing their viewpoint on you, but they are screaming it at you, like an Oxyclean commercial!

I may be old fashioned, but I am a big fan of forming my own opinion about things, which is rather hard to do when you are only presented with one side of the story. Are Americans really becoming that lazy that they cannot even think for themselves? I hope not.

Another sneaky ploy has been the well placed “marketing blog” which is strategically placed in the newsfeed of many browsers to make you think it is real news, when actually it is an advertisement. Advertisers have also somehow commandeered our keywords. I typed in “summer recipes” hoping to find a good salad recipe to take to a party. The first three sites to come up were all from large companies looking to push their products on me, so I then typed in “healthy summer recipes” which brought up the same three companies and offered me, not so healthy recipes.

So I guess what I’m saying is, yes, true Journalism is apparently dead, so remember this. Think with your own mind, consider the source, remember that every story has more than one viewpoint and advertisers have more money than poor bloggers who are looking to get the truth out there.

Celebrate Freedom!

Every person born in the USA is, in my opinion, very blessed. We have so many freedoms that many other nations can only dream of. With the recent “Hobby Lobby” uproar it seems that our nation’s courts are forgetting that religious freedoms are personal and that no one’s employer should be able to force their beliefs on them.

There are many businesses all over the United States that are owned by people of varying religions, I’ve worked for Jewish people, Muslim people and Buddhists, none of my previous employers felt the need to impose their beliefs on me.

Why is it always women’s health that takes the hit? Women should have their own say over their bodies no matter what their religion and no employer should have the right to deny them access to any benefits. If birth control is covered under Obamacare, it should be covered, no exceptions. What is the point of having a National Healthcare system if the Supreme court can act like a bunch of stupid old folgies and let one closed minded company get out of it?

The question is, do you really want the government in control of your life? Do you think the people in power are really making decisions that will benefit you as a citizen, or are they perhaps making decisions that will get them re elected or put more money in their own pockets?

If you are curious as to how bad it could be I suggest that you read the novel “One World United” by Kingsmuir Press author Jean Marie Stanberry. It is a post apocalyptic tale of our world in the distant future. After the massive devastation of World War III, a centralized government is formed. This government takes full control of the lives of it’s citizens deciding their careers, who they will marry, even how many children they will have.

If you think something like that could never happen, think about the terrible things that have happened in our past like Hitler’s barely foiled takeover of the entire world. When people are weakened by war, hunger and fatigue they become much easier to manipulate. I know so many people are tired of the violence in this country and they are ready for everyone to give up their guns and live in a socialized world of rainbows and unicorns. Don’t do it! Yes there are crazies out there, but what you really have to fear is some religious zealot bent on taking over the world that can actually find brain dead morons to follow him. Keep your guns somewhere safe, but keep them…

The video trailer for Jean Marie Stanberry’s newest book, “Blood, Sweat and Fears.

When people lose faith they become hopeless, after hopelessness comes desperation. At this point, there is nothing left to lose. Herein lies the danger.

The year is 1980 and tensions are running high in communist USSR. When one man develops an elaborate plan to defect to the USA, no one can anticipate how quickly passion will deteriorate into obsession and desperation will escalate into a grim web of deception and violence.
